I was on the road to quiting and then my daughter moved in with our grandchildren. Rather than ripping peoples faces off I went back to full fledged smoking. I don't envy you, but I do admire you and its something I have to do soon. I wish you luck and you can count on us for support.

Good luck bro- I've heard that it is very difficult. But, if you hate it that much, that should help, right? Be strong and show us your determination. |

^^ oops didn't want to come across as any kind of pressure. That's about the worst thing that you can have, my Mom was a pressure cooker. So now I just don't tell her. I don't even think I would tell her if I quit she would make me start again and actually has. I have tried to quit several times was successful twice..pregnant makes it easy. Hes my Hero for the mere fact hes trying, its when you stop trying you feel you have failed.

63:30 hours... now I just have to get over this 10-day illness that I've had. Those of you who can relate will understand now, just why I wanted a cigarette so badly on Tuesday. The swine flu, H1N1, or something will all of the symptoms / low-grade fever, got me last Monday. I suffered through an entire week of work, half of which I had to do with almost no voice. So, when I was feeling much better on Saturday, I went for a long ride, which started at 7:00am. This Monday, I came down with a bad cough. By yesterday, my voice started giving out. So, as of yesterday afternoon, I have no voice again. This time it looks like pneumonia. OH JOY! I feel that I'm over the hump with the Nicotine. Time to get rid of the rest of this crud. Thank God, I've got today and tomorrow off (oddly convenient vacation time). |

Yeah. Well, with a month that's been as rough as mine, I still want that cigarette. Just over an hour to go, before I hit three full days! Yay! |

I used to get tonsilitis about every three months, when I was a kid. Yeah, it would suck, but I guarantee that I would've been puffing 'em down, had I gotten that a month ago. Nonetheless, awesome job on your stay, Rockerchic!

well thankfully my little "stint" was only for about a month, so once i got back into the "unsmoking" habit again, it took pretty easy. I wanted to bite it in the ass asap, cuz i could feel myself slippin back into it and getting "really" hooked again, and I never want to be a smoker again. ever. nope. gross. expensive. stinky. blah!

So, just a little update for y'all. I've got five-and-a-half days under my belt; however, I have to admit that hospital staff wouldn't have allowed it, any time in the last 24 hours. *shrug* I admitted myself to ER at 7:45am, yesterday. As mentioned in post #13, I do have pneumonia. :( The staff at Overlake is taking good care of me. I'll give a better update, soon. |

My better update... Thursday and Friday, I stayed home, drinking as much in the way of fluids as my body could handle - Milk, juice, water, and even a couple of Rockstars for the B-vitamins. In the evening on Thursday, I purchased a warm-mist vaporizer and some mineral oil to emulsify into the air (I think it's called Vick's VapoSteam). The vaporizer worked great on Thurday evening, even allowed me to wake up feeling pretty good on Friday. The coughing still remained, though, and my body was completely fatigued from all of the muscle contractions. I managed okay on Friday, but had a huge muscle spasm in my back, that night. Further, I left the vaporizer up a little too high, so I awoke yesterday morning in a Jungle-type environment. First coughing of the morning produced some spewtum with some blood, so that was an instant decision to go to ER. Alas, I am here. |

I'm sorry your in the hospital, but am glad you had the sense to go. Get well soon and don't give the nurses a hard time. Did they slap a patch on you or did you tell them you were ok without one. Keep us updated.

In ER, I told them that I was a non-smoker, as of Tuesday. There haven't been any problems, and all of the nurses have been a delight! Overlake seems to be a nice facility. |

You know they really need to know your a smoker but if they took x-rays of your lungs they seen you lied. There's the blood pressure issue, nicotine withdrawal and time it takes to heal. I'm saying all this because my daughter was reading over my shoulder and shes a cma and told me to tell you all this stuff. I on the other hand say heal fast and enjoy the nurses. |

If you feel the urge to smoke, think about entry fees and new tires...that shit costs a fortune. | ||

Well that wouldn't just be some sort of creepy sign of desperation - like the need for nurturing. Oh man, the symbolizm involved in that thought of yours, Bikenut. Wait a sec... Rockerchic, how well does that work?! ![]() Here's the first question I'm usually getting from each nurse: "Need any pain killers?" I'm thinkin' someone else has to have been in my spot, before. How else could someone come up with the very simple phrase, "Good night, nurse!" ![]() Don't worry, MommaD, I was clear with them about the smoking situation from the get-go. |

Finally home! I got home around noon today, and had a heck of a time trying to get everything sorted with prescriptions and insurance information to the hospital. In fact, I still need to schedule a follow-up appointment or two. I had a heck of an urge to smoke, tonight. Once I got home, it seemed like the appropriate thing to do! WTF?! Oh, well, I suppose things like that will pop-up every once in a while. Last night marked one week without cigarettes. I can't say this enough; thank you for the support, while I was in the hospital. After two weeks, my body is finally starting to feel like it's moving back toward normal. To think, I almost died a couple of days ago... scary stuff! Give me a few days to work my way back from this outerworld type mindset (still a few opiates in me), and you'll see a bit of participation on this site, outside of the two threads I created. Here's to a fantastic energy! May you enjoy a well being. |
