Do you find it to be troubling to be single over the Holidays? More so than any other time of year?

nope. valentine's day is the hard one for me. i've never been in an official relationship on that day. i'm very close to making the decision that if i am with someone come some future feb 14, i'm breaking up with them on the 13th to keep the tradition alive.

it's possible i'll also repeat this on mar 13 so i do not have to partake in steak and bj day.

I wish I had someone special in my life to spend the Holidays with. I don't think I never had a Holiday that I did not have someone special to spoil it may have been a new relationship but it was someone to buy for. This year NO ONE...So I bought myself something special. I would be fine if my girls would not be gone half the time of the Holiday so my plan goes as follows, X-mas eve hang with the girls go to Mass head home alone and sit in the Hot Tub with a bottle of wine. Wait for the girls to come home from their dads around midnight or so. X-mas day wake up gifts make a hugh breakfast...say good by to the girls sit in the Hot Tub with another bottle of wine waiting for their return to a meal I would have made.

So If anyone wants to join my hot tub with me come on down!!

This is going to be my first Christmas without my daughters. So the waking up and finding the presents under the tree... well that's not going to happen. SOOO.. I will be surrounding myself with family and friends this holiday season.

As far as being single for the holidays -it really doesn't bother me.

Hmmmm.....I've always been single over the holidays. Every holiday. So I guess it is like that saying.......if you've never had it then you don't know what you are missing!

Besides my family is so HUGE and I always have a hard time finding out what everyone wants and getting them that perfect gift that I am kinda glad I don't have to worry about finding the perfect gift for an SO.

I feel a bit of sadness on Christmas morning, just cause thats when my ex proposed to me.
But other than that its just like being single any other time, no big deal.

this could also be a reason why it doesn't bother me, but opposite reasoning. i'm not close with any family outside my parents, so i'm use to being alone during the holiday season. not surrounded by people in love and being all smoochy smoochy in my face to get me all mad at them.

it was sad a couple years ago spending turkey day alone, but because of where i was living at the time, it seemed silly to spend so much on a plane ticket over there and back when i'd be stuck in an empty house alone the entire time.

This is my first Xmas without an SO. And my son will be at his Dads this year. Not quite sure what I wanna do. Xmas has always been very family oriented for me. Not having my ex with me if I go to visit my folks will be dificult. Weve always spent Xmas with them.
I absolutely hate it!! But its very new to me, Im sure it'll get better.

Most of my family is on the East Coast. Especially after 9/11, I just don't travel during the Holidays anymore.

Besides, ever been stuck in Chicago during winter? I am just tired of it ( I lived in Minneasota from 1986 - 1995 ). And I have been here since 1999. I am really tired of Chicago.

So, no, I got over the holidays a long time ago.

Yes! been in Chicago in the winter. Had walking neumonia for a while of that and it sucked! Then in the spring it was 80 degrees and snowed the next day! Screw Chicago!!

I actually rather enjoy it. Less time worrying about appeasing the SO and more time enjoying myself. Maybe I'd feel different if my last relationship didn't kinda suck.

I don't think it's better to be single. People think it is but I'd have to disagree.
If you find someone special and share the same passion on things, it's actually the best thing in the world to be with that person.
Relationships don't suck. Either you work on it or quit. Most people quit, so sad.
So yeah, I'm jealous when people kissin or holdin hands walking down the streets just like the world is only theirs.

I'll have to agree with you there.. For some reason I'm noticing couples ALL OVER THE PLACE. I find myself studying them.. Trying to match up their physical features.. wondering how they met each other. I was trying to envision what my perfect partner would look like.. my teen told me she envisioned me with a blonde guy with a military hair cut. Not what I pictured for myself!!

As far as valantines day goes....its just a day created by hallmark and candy companies to make more money. Sure there is a story behind it but isn't there always? There is nothing wrong with showing you love/care for someone any other day of the week so why do we need a special day to do that. Love is something that should be shown all year round not just once a year.
