okay my ex had sleep apnia BAD so until he got his O2 mask he rocked the fing walls good thing he was a drunk so I always was asleep first. BUT when I did wake up I would make him turn on his side and I would pinch his nose on the base this would make him open his mouth more and breath!! also the nose strips they sell in the stores works good. BUT if you are really bad and over weight you may just have sleep apnia and you should really go get that tested out. You see most over weight people have sleep apnia due to blocking of the breathing passageways. This puts extra straine on your heart and that is why some have heart attacks, weight, high lipids, body fatigue being tired, heart not getting needed O2 walking heart attacks. Be safe think about the one who snorzzzzzzzzzzzzz when sleeping????

Very tru. I have a mild apnea. Snore and stop breathing. Only, in my case a Cpap machine is not the solution, which brings me to what I'd like to add to your post WF. Drinking alcohol and smoking both exacerbate snoring/apnea. Alcohol is a muscle relaxant that can cause the back of the throat to collapse blocking the air way...smoking swells the nasal cavities causing blockage. A deviated septum can add to it too!

outside of cpap there is "the pillar procedure." http://restoremedical.com/

First we ruled out Apnea then we tried all the over the counter and prescription remedies we could. Nothing worked I'd nudge I'd try to go to sleep first, to only be awakened by the sound of snoring. So I try and sometimes either he doesn't snore or I don't wake up those are good nights. The other bad snoring nights I go sleep somewhere else, its safer for him I'm not a nice person when I get woke up or can't get to sleep. I hate it but at least I can get some sleep and so can he because then hes not worried about snoring. What weird is he snores worse in the winter months.

...I'm not picking on ya martini...it's just, funny to me that people come to forums looking for advice and help and when it's provided, they go right on doing what they've always done...which usually equates to nothing...and that's NOT directed at you, just my opinion.

MrsD, Has your hubby actually had a Sleep Apnea study done?, I've had two, and while they are not alot of fun it can give him some very insightful info to correct his problem. Does he stop breathing? I only ask because people generally don't take snoring very seriously and the reality is, it can cause high blood pressure, heart failure and stroke.

I how frustrating it is...I've snored my whole life. To date I've had a rhinoplasty to correct a deviated septum, 2 sleep studies and a gauntlet of over the counter stuff...now I'm making lifestyle choice changes regarding drinking and smoking. Changing my diet...limiting caffeine...all these things play a role.

I'm another apnea sufferer. I never would have believed it until a girlfriend told me that she was afraid for me. I'd stop breathing and violently thrash, trying to "come up for air". I got the study done and have been using a CPAP machine for years. It's made a major difference in my quality of life, and allows my companions to actually sleep, instead of having to {kick me, put their cold feet on me, get me to roll over}

My biggest fear was that women would freak out about it. So far, I've had pretty good luck.

Your so kind to ask thank you. Yes, he did but its been a long time back. I have actually sat in bed and listened to him most of the night to make sure he didn't stop breathing, my dad has Apnea so I know it can be quite serious. I did go to your links helpful information there. We eat a pretty healthy diet, as he has the High C. However the other lifestyles most definitely need to be changed, caffeine and smoking our drinking days are far and few between. We did a lot of that in our younger years, maybe all those miles we put on back then You have offered up a lot of good advise and you gave this ole gal some hope Thank You

I had sleep apnea when I weighed over 250 lbs back in March 2008.
But since I lost over 60 lbs, I no longer have that problem.
I also notice that I rarely snore like I used to.
I remember waking up snoring back then like every night, lol.

When I'm sick I might snort really super loud and wake myself up. Then I just laugh at myself and go back to sleep. There's some randomness about myself you all of you!
