I've always disliked how people use the word 'love.' Especially when women use it on me, like it is some sort of weapon or tool that can somehow get me to do things I would not otherwise consent to (not that I've ever given in). Honestly, I've used it occasionally, but I try not to use it for selfish reasons. On that note, watch this video on Love and Being by Derrida, the famous French philosopher. Good stuff. When and why do you use the word, if at all? YouTube - Jacques Derrida On Love and Being |

| ~Messy Baby~ I'm a Chicky-poo Living in my own reality.... | Quote: But as far as in a relationship, I am such a freaker, I tend to spook easy and I don't just go spouting things off cause I'm going to get my way or I want something. I tend to wait A LOT longer than necessary even saying it when I mean it. I think I have a couple of walls built and may or may not have commitment phobia. As far as the video goes, I'd say without a doubt that if I were to mutter the words "I love you" to someone, its for their whole self, not because they are x, y or z. But an acceptance of that person as a whole. | |

I love the "L" word. Use it all the time with most of my close friends and family. To me it's not a taboo word.

So what if the person in question.. S/O.. is a close friend.. why refrain on telling them how you feel - or treating them like any other friend in fear of the "i'm in love with you" impression? And who the hell knows when they are in love anyway? Love... Lust.... The whole journey is tingly.. I sure as hell can't decipher!! |

I think that where relationships are concerned people tend to throw that word around very casually with no actions to support their words. I use this word a lot with my family and friends cause it is important to me that they know how much they mean to me. I would never want a family member or good friend to think for one minute that I do not love them with all of my heart. That said......I LOVE you Sarah!!!!!! As for my one relationship.......the first time he told me he loved me I asked him if he was sure. When he said yes I asked him if he was positive. When he said yes I asked him how he was so absolutely sure that he loved me. Let's just say he did not like my response to his declaration of love....he also didn't like the fact that I told him I didn't know if I loved him or not. Whatever happened to honesty being the best policy? |

I don't use the word Love anymore except for family. I have found in past relationships as others have said that Love and Lust get so easily confused so why risk confusion. I keep it to I like you a lot and if they don't like it guess they want something more then what I am looking for.

Depends on the situation and what it's about. :p I love my bike. <3 I love WB. <3 ...but then there's "I love you" as part of a relationship which is a whole new ballpark... and I'll write more on later. It's a major topic for me. |

Its a four letter word that can make your life HELL or HEAVEN!!! Guys better pick the right time to drop the "L" word... Cause if we don't we either come off as pushing things and that scares girls away.... or girls use it and we don't say it back so that makes them mad to.... So do guys ever win in this situation..... Most the time no.. |

guys should never be the first to say the L word to a girl. Let the girl say it to take the stress off of us. plus falling in love is over rated. |

Perhaps my experience is the exception... My husband and I were both 21, and seeing eachother every day for 2 wks after we met. He told me he loved me first, and I've even remembered the date...November 15, 1988. We've been together ever since. That's love right there, don't underate it...it can be a very good thing. ;) |

gayest word ever invented. if you're someone who throws it out there to everyone and are with someone who doesn't use the term lightly, it can fuck everything up in 2.5 seconds flat. |

I think at our age, most people can decipher the differences between tossing out "luv u!" to all your friends and buddies, and then saying, "i love you" to a s/o that you're actually in love with. | |

I really liked that video. I think it's pretty trivial to use the word LOVE in the context of anything other than the singularity of a person and someone being irreplaceable. But like any good philosopher Mr. Derrida has raised more questions that I don't think I can answer... How do you determine whether you love someone's parts (interests, hobbies, the superficial) or the some of all parts as an irreplaceable person? I think by this logic if you've found the latter.... you've found the person you should Marry. |

english is funny I avoid it at all costs. Its too loaded of a word, and you cant control what the other person thinks that word means to them, so you are opening up a can o worms. Your views of the word, may not meet theirs; and well off to the races with that one and of course if you have ever said it and it just hangs out there like a cartoon bubble, you know you shouldnt have said it. |
