Age difference: How much is too much?

At what point is the age difference 'too much' in your opinion? Or is there a line? No? What if the girl is older, is that different?

Just looking for thoughts.

it all depends on how the person presents him/herself.... a 20year old can be mature and levelheaded whereas a 30-40 year old can act immature and not have his/her life in order.. just depends on the person.

I don't think there is a line, if you care about someone that's what matters. Just because someone else doesn't think its right doesn't mean it's not. I've dated much older and younger women than me and heard comments about both, but I never listened to any of it because at the time that person made me happy.

When it comes to me.. I've found myself attracted to and most likely compatable with guys as old as mid-fifties. I really don't limit myself when it comes to OLDER men. Younger men.. that's a different story.

My ex was 12 yrs older. It seemed to work well for a long time. Then when I hit 30 I realized he still saw me as the 18yr old he had dated. I needed to be treated as an equal, but since he had more "experiances", he was always to telling me how to do stuff or thought he knew the right way. I still needed to have some "oops' " in there. We struggled with it, but I don't think it was the demise of our relationship

I can understand that... but it also sucks cause I tend to agree better with women older than I am. Immaturity is a MAJOR turnoff. I mean, don't mind goofiness and whatever in the right context but some people just don't know how to be serious.

Oh, part of the reason I'm asking is because my sister's been flipping me crap cause a friend I've been hanging out with a lot is 18. I don't see how this is a problem.

I need to be in a peer to peer relationship. That's why I tend to gravitate towards men who are around the same age as me ... a few years older or younger is fine, but more than a 6 year difference is starting to push it.

I was in a relationship with an 18-year gap ... he was the nicest guy in the world. The problem is that the dynamic can, not necessarily so, morph into a father-daughter thing (or mother-son thing). Not good. The older person usually, but not always, brings more wisdom to the table because they've experienced more in life given their age. The younger person may actually stop growing because they may depend too much on the life experience of the much older person.

I realize everyone's different, and I respect that. It's really important to me that I am my own woman who can bring an authentic identity to the relationship, rather than simply depend on the identity of my partner. Based on my prior experience, I get a little nervous with a large age gap.

Okay.. well here's my take on age.. and I know not all of you will agree.. but this is coming from my own scientific research. ;)

Men around 24-27 - tend to think that they are looking for that long term relationship that will lead to marriage (or your "paperless marriage"). My thoughts on this is because they think it's the next logical step... graduate highschool, go to college (or what ever), take time to play, settle down then have kids.

Men that are MY AGE (31 for those of you guessing) - they've been through the above stage and realize that time isn't as pressing as they thought, relationships aren't all that they thought and realize that just enjoying life is what matters. So (in my experience) they aren't really looking for relationships.

Men in their mid-late 30's. UGH! They are teases! This is the market that is totally and completely emotionally unavailable. Why? I've yet to figure it out.

Men 40+ - They've been out. They've had fun. They've experienced life as well as multiple relationships and know what they are looking for. They are more open to a committed relationship and responding to their partner's needs.

Well WB has stipulated earlier that men who are more mature might seem creepy dating young women.
I think any opinion on that matter is between the two adults no matter what the age difference.

I dated someone who was 13 yrs older than me when I was 19. Then again, on Guam, the legal age is 18 so there was a cultural difference too. I've dated guys were were younger too (at the most a 5 yr difference) yet they were mature; or so it seemed. So long as they can communicate and bear qualities of the adult nature I don't it it matters to most people these days. But it's still a matter of preference.

Age difference isn't a big deal to me..it's more about maturity. Someone else mentioned it, but someone at 25 can be more mature than someone at 40.

Learning Piano & guitar
French horn, trumpet, baritone, mellophone, trombone, and everything brass except the tuba. Can't physically play guitar but I'm learning bass and keyboards/piano. Did perc/drums for a little bit too.

lol....Mellophone
You can play that but not a marching tuba? Same key buddy just up a fifth, or lower if played in F!
If you cant play that, then these are all out:
tenor trombone
bass trombone
bugle
soprano cornet
euphoniums
E♭ tuba
B♭ tuba

Never got around to tuba. Was having too much fun with marching and upright baritone.

I could play anything brass given a few mins. I just ran out of time in school. The key changes didn't matter and neither did the clef changes.

Living in my own reality....
I've dated someone that was 12 years older, at the time, didn't see anything wrong with it, now looking back...it's kinda creepy. Funny thing is, that person is one of my bestfriends now, taught me a lot about myself and opened me eyes to a lot of things I would have otherwise not been exposed to.

Now tho, I keep it within the 4-6 year range, preferrably 6 year difference, older. I have never dated anyone younger, you boys mature too slow (for the most part, there are expections to every rule).
